Le Mars Girls Golf wins first-ever MRAC Tournament Title on home course

The Le Mars girls golf team won their first-ever Missouri River Activities Conference tournament title on Tuesday shooting a 404 at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.

The Bulldogs have not won many MRAC titles in all sports since joining the conference a few years ago. Head coach Dave Irwin says getting that done on their home course with a group of selfless girls is very special.

Four girls finished in the top eight for the Bulldogs with all scoring golfers within four strokes of each other. Coach Irwin says that consistency is something that can take the team a long way.

It was a pretty good day all around for the Bulldogs who had to battle the wind throughout the meet as well. Coach Irwin says, even with the wind, the girls were really good with their drives setting them up for success later in any particular hole.

The Bulldogs have a potential for one more week of competition next week with the Sioux City tournament on Monday and their regional tournament on Wednesday in Webster City. Things will be tough for the Bulldogs at regionals due to some senior academic conflicts, but Coach Irwin says his team will be ready to compete well no matter what.

Le Mars was led by Metta Skov who shot a 99 and finished fourth overall on the individual leaderboard.
