City Council Tours New Police Headquarters

(Le Mars) — Members the Le Mars City Council, mayor, and city
administration staff had a tour of the new Le Mars Police Headquarters following the city council meeting held Tuesday. Police Chief Kevin Vander Vegte and Assistant Police Chief Jay King led the tour, showing the city officials the facilities that will soon be the new home for the Le Mars Police Department. Chief Vander Vegte says the new headquarters, the former Motor Inn auto dealership building located on north highway 75, will provide additional space, which he says is greatly needed.

The police chief says the new building will also lead to more efficiency, and security.

Vande Vegte says he likes the new location on highway 75. He says even though the new police station is located on the north edge of town, he believes police officers will be able to respond to emergencies quicker since they have easy access to the highway.
Vande Vegte says the police department has been fortunate to obtain office furnishings from Wells Enterprises, and from the former Gateway Computer Company.

The Le Mars Police Chief says the new facility will also provide more garage space.

Vande Vegte says the new police station will feature the latest “state-of- the-art technology to better assist with solving crimes.

The police chief says the new building is even equipped to handle more forensic investigations. Vande Vegte says he hopes to be able to move from the old building to the new police headquarters on December 3rd and 4th.
