Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Claims Two Area Lives

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department responded to an unresponsive male medical call on Wednesday, January 1st at about 5:15 p.m. The address was at 501 4th Avenue Northeast. Upon arrival, two male subjects were found deceased. A preliminary investigation concluded that both died from carbon
monoxide poisoning, and their deaths were self-inflicted. The two were identified as Jeremy Tibbetts, age 32, and 41-year old Jason Tibbetts.
Both had resided at the residence. In addition to the Le Mars Police, the Le Mars Ambulance Services, Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, and the Plymouth County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene. The investigation is continuing.

 

 

Sioux City Deals With Three People With Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

(Sioux City) — Three people in Sioux City were taken to the hospital after being overcome by carbon monoxide Monday. Fire captain Ryan Collins says the three were in a home that is slated for demolition and were using a gas-powered generator to run heaters.

The conditions and names of the three have not
been released. Collins says everyone should be aware of the dangers of creating carbon monoxide in an enclosed area.

Collins says carbon monoxide can quickly become deadly.

Collins says there were not carbon monoxide detectors in this home since it was tagged for demolition.

 

 

Kass Re-elected To Chairman For Plymouth County Board Of Supervisors

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors held election of officers during its meeting held Thursday morning. Don Kass was re-elected to serve as chairman, and Craig Anderson was selected as the vice chairman of the board.

The supervisors approved the committee appointments, with each resuming the duties of previously appointed committees. The one exception is John Meis announced that his term on the Life Skills Training Center would expire in May. The supervisors then approved having Supervisor Gary Horton would take over the supervisor duties with Life Skills Training Center in June. The supervisors approved four newspapers as the official newspapers of the county. They include the Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Akron
Hometowner, Remsen Bell and the Moville Record. The supervisors approved all the nominated names whose terms were about to expire to serve another term to their respective committees and boards. The county governing board approved a construction project with the Iowa Department of Transportation
allowing for the purchase of right-of-way construction at six different intersections on Highway 75 between Hinton and county road C-80. Three of the intersections connect the small community of James with Highway 75. The total estimated cost for the project is $149,905. Five of the intersections will extend 50 feet with paving. The sixth intersection will extend a
distance of 100 feet of new pavement joining Highway 75. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2020.

 

 

Vandals De-face Billboards Regarding Missing Television News Anchor

(Mason City) — Vandals have defaced a billboard in Mason City that asks for the public’s help in solving the case of former KIMT-TV anchorwoman Jodi Huisentruit’s disappearance.
The billboard was among three permanent billboards placed throughout the community in June 2018 in an attempt to raise awareness to Huisentruit’s disappearance, asking the question “Someone knows something, is it you?” The vandalism took place in the last few days, with the words “Frank Stearns
Machine Shed” painted in yellow on the bottom half of the billboard. Stearns was a longtime investigator with the Mason City Police Department who worked on the Huisentruit case. He has since retired from the Police Department and currently is employed by Cerro Gordo County as a medical examiner
investigator. The 27-year-old Huisentruit failed to show up for her morning news program on June 27th 1995 and was declared legally dead in May 2001.

 

 

Iowa Congresswoman Finkenauer Endorses Joe Biden 

(Dubuque) — First-term Iowa Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer of Dubuque has endorsed Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential bid. Finkenauer worked on Biden’s 2008 campaign. Biden returned the favor in 2018 and headlined a huge rally for Finkenauer in Cedar Rapids just days before the General Election.

Biden mentioned that he had been elected to the U.S. Senate when he was 29 — the same age Finkenauer was on the eve of the 2018 election.

Biden and Finkenauer will campaign together in her congressional district tomorrow (Friday), with stops in Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Independence. Finkenauer issued a written statement today (Thursday), praising Biden’s character and
record and Finkenauer said his commitment to rebuilding the backbone of the country — the middle class — is what Iowa and this country needs. Cindy Axne and Dave Loebsack — the other Democrats from Iowa who serve in the U.S. House — have not endorsed a presidential candidate.
