Plymouth County Authorities Investigate Shooting Incident 

(Merrill) — Law enforcement officials were called to a rural Plymouth County residence about nine miles west of Merrill near Echo Road, over the lunch hour, for a gun shooting incident. Complete details about the incident are not yet known.  The strategic weapons CERT team comprising of Le Mars Police, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee Police and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office were initially called to the scene. Apparently, at least one individual has been shot. We don’t know the severity of the condition of the victim. One individual was seen carrying what has been described as a long-gun. One person has been detained. KLEM radio hopes to have additional information when it becomes available.

 

 

 

Plymouth County Now Has 62 COVID-19 Positive Cases

(Le Mars) — As of today, Monday, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Plymouth County has reached 62, a gain of three more cases since Sunday.
Throughout the state of Iowa, — Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Health report another 414 people have tested positive for COVID-19 bringing the number past 12,000 positive cases with 12,373 and another 13 deaths reported on Sunday and six more deaths with 271 deaths associated
with the coronavirus. Iowa Department of Public Health officials report 5,249 people have recovered after having tested positive of the virus.
Nationwide, 1.3 million have contracted the virus, while the deaths have passed the bench mark of 80,500 people.

 

 

Quad Cities Chamber Wants 1 Opening Date On Both Sides Of River

(Moline, IL) — The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce says if all cities on both sides of the Mississippi River don’t re-open at the same time – it’s going to be confusing for people. Chamber President and C-E-O Paul Rumler says Iowa’s move to reopen and the Illinois governor’s insistence to stay closed are going to cause problems. Rumler has asked the two governors to open the Quad Cities area at the same time. He hasn’t said whether he wants Davenport and Bettendorf to close, or if he wants Rock Island and Moline to open.

 

 

Iowa State University Holds Virtual Graduation For 5K Students

(Ames, IA) — Five thousand students at Iowa State University got their diplomas last weekend in a virtual ceremony. It was held at Stephens Auditorium, but nobody got to walk across the stage. School officials set up the auditorium as if the students would be there. Each part of the solemn ceremony was recorded separately for each college on the Ames campus.

 

 

Motorcycle Rider Dies In Accident With Unlicensed Driver

(Des Moines, IA) — Des Moines police say the 15-year-old driver who was involved in a fatal accident with a motorcycle rider didn’t have his driver’s license yet. Motorcyclist Troy Matice was killed Saturday. Investigators say the teen was trying to turn left at a green light but failed to yield to the motorcycle coming from the other side as it was driving straight through
the intersection. The unlicensed driver hasn’t been charged yet, but that’s still a possibility.

 

 

Suspect Hurt In Botched Robbery At Davenport Bank

(Davenport, IA) — Davenport police say a would-be bank robber is hurt after he messed up his attempted weekend stick-up. David Black is facing felony charges after trying to kick in the front door of the bank. Police found Black with one shoe missing and suffering from a head injury. The shoe was later found inside the bank’s door.
