Protesters Gather At Courthouse To End Racism

(Le Mars) — Chanting “Black Lives Matter” approximately 125 people gathered at the Plymouth County Courthouse lawn Saturday afternoon to protest racism, and the presumed brutal attacks by law enforcement officials against the African-American community. The protest held at Le Mars was just one of several hundred that have taken places in communities around the globe following the death of George Floyd last week at Minneapolis, Minnesota. The protest remained peaceful. Many were carrying posters decrying the conditions by law enforcement. Several people used a megaphone to share their personal story with the gathering. Le Mars native Charles Ellis helped organize the rally.

Le Mars Police officers were stationed close by, so to make certain the protest remained peaceful and in order. Le Mars Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte addressed the crowd and mentioned the protesters message is being heard. Several motorists and onlookers passed by the courthouse to view the rally.  Many of the onlookers shared their support to local law enforcement officials.
