The Le Mars Community baseball team finished their MRAC regular season schedule with a pair of losses at home to Council Bluffs AL. The Lynx got the Bulldogs good in the first game by a score of 16-1 in four innings, but the Bulldogs showed great resilience and lost the second by one run with a 9-8 final score.
The Bulldogs got down early in the game one giving up nine runs in the top of the first inning making a comeback next to impossible. Thankfully, Le Mars did not let that slow start in the first game get to them as they bounced back to take a lead after the first inning of game two. Head coach Trent Eckstaine says the guys sometimes have to get past those first few at-bats to get into a groove.
The Bulldogs then trailed the second game by as much as four runs trailing 6-2 after two innings and five runs heading into the sixth inning. Le Mars never backed down bringing the game back to within a run after a four-run sixth inning before ultimately losing 9-8. Coach Eckstaine says that fight back has not always been present this season, and it was good to see it there on Thursday night.
Carter Baumgartner had the clutch two-out bases clearing double in the sixth inning that gave the Bulldogs a fighter’s chance in the late innings. Coach Eckstaine says his focus at the plate has helped the Bulldogs many times this season.
Le Mars closes their MRAC schedule with a league record of 2-26. The Bulldogs have two more non-conference dates this coming week before starting the postseason on Friday. Coach Eckstaine says Monday and Tuesday’s non-conference games will give him a good idea of how prepared his team is for postseason competition.
Le Mars’ overall record is down to 2-28. They will play both Monday and Tuesday on the road at Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and Lewis Central respectively.
