(Sioux City) –    An Illinois man is the third suspect to be sentenced in Sioux City Federal Court for conspiring to steal and sell 15 stolen firearms.  22-year-old Moses Strickland, Jr. from Decatur, Illinois, was sentenced to over six years in prison after pleading guilty in March to conspiracy to possess stolen firearms, possession of stolen firearms, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.  Prosecutors say Strickland and 25-year-old Antwon Holeyfield of Sioux City  broke into a victim’s Woodbury County home using an axe and stole 15 guns and other valuables.  They and 21-year-old Anthony Holeyfield of Sioux City then worked together over the next several months to sell the stolen guns.  Antwon Holeyfield was previously sentenced to over three and a half years in prison after a guilty plea to conspiracy to possess stolen firearms and possession of stolen firearms.        Anthony Holeyfield was sentenced to 8 months in prison on similar counts.

(Sioux City) – Good news for Sioux Gateway Airport.  American Airlines has changed their minds for now on their announcement last week to temporarily drop flights at Sioux Gateway Airport.  Mayor Bob Scott explained the decision at the end of Monday’s city council meeting:

The EAS, or essential air service that the mayor refers to is a federal requirement for airlines to provide air service to certain communities.

Scott says the more people that fly out of Sioux Gateway Airport, the better the chances those flights will continue:

A daily flight to Denver through United Airlines and SkyWest is still set to start on October 14th.

He is also charged with burglarizing a vehicle in the parking ramp in the 400 block of Jones Street on August 22nd.

Fewer pheasants were taken by Iowa hunters last year, but state officials say the number was still fairly high overall.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says nearly 284,000 roosters were harvested by hunters during the 2019 season, which was the second highest harvest in the last decade.
That was down from 2018 though, when hunters harvested an estimated 320,000 roosters.
The D-N-R says the 2019 roadside survey showed Iowa’s pheasant population was 17 percent lower than in 2018, so a reduced harvest was expected.
Iowa’s quail harvest followed the same trend. Hunters harvested an estimated 20,710 quail last year, with roadside counts showing quail numbers were 36 percent lower than 2018.
The survey estimated hunters harvested 54,000 rabbits, nearly 89,000 squirrels and nearly 85,000 doves.
          Iowa’s 2020 pheasant season begins October 31st.

Honda has agreed to pay more than $85 million in a multistate settlement over allegations the automaker concealed safety issues related to defects in the front airbag systems installed in certain Honda and Acura vehicles sold in the United States.

The state of Iowa will receive nearly $1.25 million as a result of the settlement.
The systems were designed and manufactured by Takata, a long-time Honda supplier, and were first installed in Honda vehicles in the 2001 model year.
Since 2008, Honda has recalled approximately 12.9 million Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the suspect airbags.
The ruptures have resulted in at least 14 deaths and over 200 injuries in the United States.
South Dakota will receive over two million dollars and Nebraska will also receive money in the settlement.

Governor Kim Reynolds has designated additional federal coronavirus relief money to support Iowa’s agricultural industry, including six million dollars to help beginning farmers pay off debt.

Monte Shaw of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says the 15-and-a-half million that’s now set aside for biofuels producers comes at a critical time.
Biofuels plants were not included in previous rounds of federal relief to businesses during the pandemic.
An ethanol or biodiesel plant will be eligible for a state grant of up to 750-thousand dollars.
Shaw says it appears Iowa is the first state to use federal CARES Act money to help the renewable fuels industry.
The governor has also directed the Iowa Economic Development Authority to distribute 60 million dollars to Iowa livestock producers raising hogs, cattle, chicken, turkeys, fish or sheep.
