Akron And Le Mars Fire Departments Battle Round Hay Bale Fire

(Akron) — The Akron Fire Department was called to 20346 Evergreen Avenue this morning for a hay bale fire.  Fire Chief Ryan Bergman says the call came in at about 5:40 a.m.  Mutual aid in the form of two tanker trucks and manpower were provided by the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department.  Bergman explains what may have caused the fire to start.

Bergman says the 150 hay bales were a total loss.  He says the consisted of large round bales that had been placed lined up end to end.

 

 

 

State Fair Numbers Behind 2019 In First 3 Days

(Des Moines, IA) — Information from the Iowa State Fair shows more than 112-thousand people (111,603) have come through the gates in the first three days. The fair was canceled last year by the pandemic. Friday has been the only day thus far to top the visitor numbers from 2019 when the all-time attendance mark was set. The first three days this year lag behind 2019 by 16-thousand-655. Sunday numbers will be out later.

 

 

 

Woman Who Died In Fiery Des Moines Crash Identified

(Des Moines, IA) — Des Moines police have identified the 25-year-old woman was found dead in a car that veered off the roadway and caught fire Sunday as a local woman. She is Ingrid Vizuett. Investigators are following up on witness statements that indicate her car may have been fleeing from the scene of a minor hit-and-run crash nearby.

 

 

 

Flordia Woman Has Canceled Surgery In Iowa

(Sioux City, IA) — A Facebook post led to a Florida woman being flown to Sioux City for potentially life-saving surgery that had been canceled during the Covid surge in Florida. Jac E. (like “Jackie”) Chace had scheduled surgery to remove part of her colon at a hospital in Panama City, Florida, last Monday, Her son Grant Wittstruck, says out of frustration, he wrote about the situation on Facebook. That led to the surgery being scheduled at MercyOne in Sioux City last Friday.

 

 

 

Historical Society Mobile Museum Heading To Wilton

(Wilton, IA) — The State Historical Society of Iowa’s mobile museum is back on the road after being parked all last year during the pandemic. The rolling museum has an exhibit,  “Iowa History 101: Iowa’s People & Places” with 56 artifacts and videos that explore 13-thousand years of Iowa history, from its earliest residents to those who call it home today. The museum will be in Wilton during Wilton Founders Days for complimentary self-guided tours this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

 

 

 

Arrest Made On Timothy Fetcher Murder

DES MOINES, Iowa – This morning,  Monday, August 16th, after a nearly two month long investigation into the disappearance and death of 58-year old Timothy Fechter, law enforcement has charged his brother, 43-year old Creston resident Dustin Seley with one count of Murder in the First Degree. Mr. Seley was taken into custody at the Union County Jail, where he had been since June 29 on unrelated charges. Custody of Mr. Seley has been transfer to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, where he will be held on the murder charge.

The charge against Mr. Seley follows an investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation, the Creston Police Department, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, and an autopsy by the Office of the State Medical Examiner. The medical examiner ruled Mr. Fechter’s cause of death as blunt force trauma and gunshot wound. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Mr. Fechter was reported missing to the Creston Police Department on June 20 with his body being discovered along a rural Adair County road on July 1. Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater at 641-743-2148.
