Le Mars Football Looks to Turn Around Under New Coach

The 2021 season brings with it a new era of Bulldog football. Le Mars will take the field tonight in Sergeant Bluff under the direction of a brand new football coach. Head Coach Ken Vigdal most recently spent eight years in Brookings, South Dakota as their offensive coordinator. In 2020 he lead a Brookings offense that rushed for over 3300 yards in a season that finished with championship game defeat at the hands of Pierre.

Before he moved to Brookings, Coach Vigdal spent time in Sioux Center as the head football coach of the Warriors. When the Bulldog head coaching job opened, Coach Vigdal and his wife knew that they had to take the opportunity to come back to northwest Iowa.

Le Mars football went 1-6 last year bowing out of the playoffs in the first round to Storm Lake. Coach Vigdal knows that football is partially x’s and o’s, but it is also building trust in each other on and off the field.

One of the positions that Le Mars was going to need a replacement for was the quarterback position. Coach Vigdal says that Tyler Iverson became his choice due to the work he put in over the offseason.

The Bulldogs had a great opportunity to look at an early season favorite in their scrimmage this past Friday. The Bulldogs had the opportunity to scrimmage the defending Class 2A runner-up from Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. Coach Vigdal says he noticed some times where his team may not have had their full energy. He says that cannot be the case tonight against the fifth-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors.

Le Mars will open up the 2021 season under Coach Vigdal against Sergeant Bluff-Luton at 7:00 PM tonight. You’ll be able to listen to tonight’s game on 1410 AM 96.9 FM KLEM. Our coverage will begin at 6:15 from Sergeant Bluff.
