Gehlen Catholic Takes 2-2 Record Into Second Half of Season

Gehlen Catholic finished the first half of the 2021 regular season with a 42-10 victory over Hinton last Friday.

The Jays had their offensive spurts in the win over the Blackhawks, but it was the Jay’s defense that got them on the scoreboard first. Aiden Spangler picked up a fumble and ran it back 15 yards for a touchdown. Gehlen Catholic Head Coach Jeremy Schindler says that it’s important for his team to score in multiple phases of the game.

The Jay defense got things started, but it was the Gehlen offense that kept the momentum going. Keaten Bonderson was a key playmaker once again for Gehlen Catholic. The junior hauled in four catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns.

Coach Schindler says that, even though Bonderson was the focus of the Hinton defense, he was still able to come up big for Gehlen in the passing game.

Gehlen Catholic starts the second half of the season on the road at Akron-Westfield. Coach Schindler knows that the Westerners have an offense that is dangerous both with the pass and the run.

The Jays and Westerners kick off at 7:00 PM in Akron. KLEM Radio will provide live radio and video coverage of the game beginning at 6:15 on Friday night.
