Kingsley-Pierson/River Valley Football Gets Going Late in Welcome Return to 11-Man Play

The Kingsley-Pierson football team, who shares with River Valley, opened a new 11-man era with a 27-7 win over Alta-Aurelia in week one.

The Panthers got down 7-0 early and then tied the game 7-7 by the time the first half came to an end. Head Coach Dean Norris says his team moved the ball well in the first half up until they got to the red zone.

The star of the show for Kingsley-Pierson was Beau Goodwin who went 17-32 passing for 296 yards and three touchdowns while also picking off three passes on the defensive side. Coach Norris says he is a special player.

On the defensive side, the Warriors scored a 79-yard touchdown early in the game but failed to move the ball the rest of the night. That was thanks, in large part, to five interceptions forced on the defensive side. Coach Norris says the defensive success starts up front with the pressure on the quarterback.

The Panthers now start district play in week two with a tough matchup with ninth-ranked Logan-Magnolia. Logan-Magnolia sports an offensive tackle in Grant Brix who is the top-ranked football recruit regardless of position in the state of Iowa. Coach Norris says that means Kingsley-Pierson will have to focus on a power-running offense this week.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM on Friday night in Kingsley.
