Gehlen Catholic Volleyball Sweeps George-Little Rock in Second War Eagle Conference Win

The Gehlen Catholic volleyball team is off to a strong 2-0 start in War Eagle Conference play with a straight-set win over Gehlen Catholic on Tuesday.

The Jays did not waste any time stacking their schedule with tough competition going 0-7 in tournament games with four coming against state-ranked teams. Head coach Dan Goebel says that is ok because he wanted the girls to learn some things from those contests, and they have.

The matchup with George-Little Rock was Gehlen’s home opener, and it was their first meeting against the Mustangs as a fellow conference member. The Jays got off to strong starts in all three sets using energy that Coach Goebel says was controlled.

Gehlen Catholic used some aggressive serving tactics to the tune of seven aces to pick up the win. Coach Goebel says that was important after seeing George-Little Rock’s strong hitters.

Gehlen Catholic’s hitters proved to be a strong force with five of them recording four or more kills in the match giving them some balance in the front row. For the Jays to continue succeeding, Coach Goebel says it’s the first touch that needs to be on the money, so they can utilize all their offensive weapons.

Gehlen Catholic improved to 2-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the win and hosts South O’Brien on Thursday. George-Little Rock drops to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in their War Eagle Conference debut.
