Remsen St. Mary’s Girls Basketball Advances to Second Straight Regional Final

The Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team defeated West Bend-Mallard on Friday night by a score of 67-47 to advance to Wednesday night’s region final.

The Hawks got off to a rocky start by their standards allowing West Bend-Mallard to outscore them in the second quarter and keep it a nine-point game at the break. Head coach Scott Willman says the Hawks’ help defense was leaving too many Wolverines wide open for scores.

The difference maker throughout the game was Carmindee Ricke who cleaned up a lot of misses on the offensive glass getting second chance opportunities. She finished the night with 17 points as one of four Hawks in double figures. Coach Willman says she makes a lot of little plays that have a big impact on the game.

The Hawks are on to Wednesday’s region final looking for a second consecutive trip to the state tournament. They will face off with a George-Little Rock squad that kept RSM to their lowest point total of the season back in early January. Coach Willman says it is a very evenly matched set of teams that like to play physically.

Tip-off will be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 21 in Sioux Center. KLEM Radio will broadcast the game live starting with pregame coverage at 6:45.
