Bulldog girls soccer suffers season-opening setback to Denison-Schleswig

The Le Mars Community girls soccer team opened their season with a 5-0 loss to Denison-Schleswig at home on Monday night.

The Bulldogs looked brand new on the pitch after graduating the program’s record-holder in every offensive category in Zoe Wittkop. It also looked different on the sideline with new head coach Tre Thomas taking over the program. Coach Thomas says despite the score, he saw some good things from this new-look team.

The Bulldogs gave up a couple of breakaway goals which had a big impact on the game. Unfortunately, Le Mars was never able to create those opportunities themselves. Coach Thomas says he wants those forwards to get off to the races sometimes and showcase their speed.

This matchup was a tricky one considering the veteran presence of Denison-Schleswig and the lack of veteran presence for the Bulldogs. Coach Thomas says that meant they could stretch the field against the Bulldogs and keep his team guessing.

This game started a three-game in four-day stretch for the Bulldogs. Coach Thomas says it is going to take everyone pushing together to put a good product on the pitch early in the season.

The Bulldogs take on Council Bluffs AL tonight in Council Bluffs to open the MRAC portion of their schedule.
