K-P/RV Girls Golf wins fourth-straight Western Valley Conference Tournament Championship

The Kingsley-Pierson/River Valley girls golf team won their fourth consecutive Western Valley Conference tournament title on Monday at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.

With wind gusts topping 30 and even reaching 40 miles an hour, things were not easy for the competitors during the 18-hole tournament. For the Panthers, head coach Val Sitzmann says the wind made the girls change their gameplan for attacking certain holes.

The Panthers shot a 402 as a team keeping scores very low all throughout the tournament. They have kept scores consistently low most of the year which has led to them also being the regular season champion in the conference. Coach Sitzmann says mental toughness has been a big reason for the Panthers’ success all season and in the tournament.

There was not too much to complain about for the Panthers considering they got the win, but things can always be improved before the postseason begins. Coach Sitzmann says learning from mistakes on the green will help the Panthers in their regional meets this week.

The Panthers will start postseason play Friday in the opening round of the regional tournament in Aurelia.
