Le Mars Football continues to raise the standard with plenty of new faces

Le Mars Community football had a wonderful offseason leading to excitement around the Bulldogs heading into the new season.

Whether it was a 7-on-7 competition, an open field, or working out in the weight room, the players were there and putting the work in. Le Mars head coach Ken Vigdal says that work will pay dividends in the long run.

The Bulldogs are moving forward into a new season without their two-year starting quarterback in Teagen Kasel. That leaves the door open for junior Jami Sitzmann to take the reigns of the Bulldog offense. Coach Vigdal says he has picked up his reads quickly.

The offense also graduated their four top receivers from the past season. What does Le Mars have to say for that? Just that the Bulldogs may be deeper at that position this season. Coach Vigdal says there are more than enough athletes to get the ball to in space.

On the defensive side of the ball, no departure was greater than Alex Allen. Allen led all of Class 4A in tackles for loss last year with 22.5. Coach Vigdal says the trend is shifting to more athletic players in that position, and the Bulldogs continue to have guys that can fit that mold.

The secondary loses their leader in interceptions last year in Andrew Fifita, but they replace him with more talent than they know what to do with. Coach Vigdal says passing windows are going to be tight with his group.

The Bulldogs have made the postseason in back-to-back seasons and now know what it takes to get to the second season of the year. Coach Vigdal says that standard is driven by players who are hungry to make sure the new standard is not altered in any way.

Le Mars kicks off its season tonight at Jim Lorenzen Field against Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
