Le Mars Football chalks up first district win of the year with blowout of Sioux City West

The Le Mars Community football team picked up their first district win of the season defeating Sioux City West on the road on Friday night by a score of 48-16.

After a loss to end the non-district schedule and a loss to start district play, the Bulldogs were eager to get things back on the right track. Le Mars head coach Ken Vigdal says the guys were on a mission, and that showed early.

The Bulldog offense could not do much wrong in finding the end zone three times in each of the first two quarters to take a 41-0 lead into the half. When the game was over, six different Bulldogs had carried the ball into the end zone. That offensive production paired with a defense that was playing together made this a great team win.

A big key to the success on defense came from West’s inability to keep possession of the ball. Four Wolverine turnovers were the driving force behind some great field position for the Bulldogs. Coach Vigdal says good teams give themselves good opportunities via turnovers.

The Bulldogs get themselves back to .500 with a 3-3 overall record and a 1-1 district record. The margin of error remains slim even after the win meaning the Bulldogs are going to have to continue improving if they want to get back to the playoffs. Coach Vigdal says that means a lot of focus will be put on themselves and not their opponents.

The Bulldogs will next take on Fort Dodge at home in a contest that will be played on Thursday night due to the official shortage. Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM.
