Le Mars football ends season with dominant win over Storm Lake

The Le Mars Community football team had their season end on Friday night despite beating Storm Lake at home by a score of 49-0.

The Tornadoes came in with the best passing attack in Class 4A this season. The Bulldogs took that information and proceeded to shutout Storm Lake and hold them under 100 yards passing for the only time this season. Le Mars head coach Ken Vigdal says his defense came to play.

The win moved the Bulldogs to 6-3 and 4-1 in the district, but they did not get to advance to the playoffs. Due to Fort Dodge beating Spencer, the Bulldogs missed out on the playoffs by finishing third in the tiebreaker in the district and 17th in the state RPI standings. Coach Vigdal says the seniors were able to get a final goodbye on the field despite all the uncertainty.

This senior class was the first to play all four years under Coach Vigdal as the head coach of the program. As freshman, the class struggled, but they still became key contributors on two playoff teams and three total winning seasons at the varsity level. Coach Vigdal says the class grew as football players and people in their four years with the program.

Being disappointed in missing the playoffs shows how far the program has come. Coach Vigdal says the program’s standard continues to be set high, and it is up to the next classes to continue to reach for that standard.

The Bulldogs ended their year in 17th place in the RPI and with a final record of 6-3.
