The Hinton Blackhawk football team won their rematch with OABCIG in the second round of the playoffs on Friday night by a score of 21-14.
To beat a team for the second time in the season on the road takes a strong effort from everybody involved with the program. That is what the Blackhawks got against the Falcons, and head coach Kadrian Hardersen says he could not be prouder.
The game started off slow with Hinton getting on the board in the first quarter, and OABCIG unable to find the end zone until the later part of the second quarter. Coach Hardersen says that was just a result of both teams being so similar in skill.
Both teams got back on the scoreboard in the third quarter, and the Blackhawks needed a drive to put points on the board with the score tied. They got that drive, and it chewed up a lot of precious time that the Falcons needed to stage a countering drive. Coach Hardersen says he trusted his kids to get the job done when push came to shove.
The win gives Hinton a 9-1 record and an opportunity to return to Cedar Falls for the first time since 2012. It also allows the Blackhawks to play a home game for the first time in over four weeks. Coach Hardersen says the guys were motivated throughout the playoffs to get the opportunity to play on their home field again.
The third-ranked Blackhawks will take on Underwood with a trip to the UNI-Dome on the line. KLEM will bring you the contest on air with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM. Kickoff will follow at 7:00.
