Hinton girls basketball hopes to find early cohesiveness with new faces

The Hinton Blackhawks girls basketball team is coming off a pair of 20-win seasons that both ended in the regional final to Central Lyon. The Blackhawks will be a mixed bag this year with the addition of many new kids that have moved to Hinton. Head coach Matt Leary says the key is getting all of them to form a cohesiveness that can allow them to play well.

Part of that cohesiveness this season will be on the girls to adapt to a new system. Whether the transfer is Sydney Doeschot from Kingsley or Addy Pigott from Cherokee, all of the new faces played a different style of basketball prior to Hinton. Coach Leary says getting them ready will be a challenge, but the girls have done well so far.

The basketball team was dealt a tough blow during volleyball season when All-State post Bailey Boeve suffered an ACL injury that ended her basketball season. Replacing her will be incredibly tough, but Coach Leary says it is going to take everyone doing their part to fill in the blanks.

Hinton starts the year ranked 13th in the IGHSAU preseason rankings. To live up to that, Coach Leary says he will need the girls to be efficient with the opportunities presented all season.

Hinton starts their year at home against Sergeant Bluff-Luton tonight.
