The Hinton boys basketball team did not graduate a single player off last year’s team that went 15-8 and finished in third in the War Eagle Conference. Hinton head coach John Spies says that allowed his guys to dive right in head first into things this season.
That veteran returning squad means that most players know what it takes to play other positions on the floor. Because of that, the Blackhawks are quite content to play a positionless game at times with everybody able to fill in where is needed. Coach Spies says that allows things to flow through many different people early in the possession.
Hinton was led in scoring last year by Logan Kempema who was a raw sophomore and still averaged nearly 16 points per game. This year, he is more mature and has a ton of experience to help guide him. Coach Spies says that has turned him into a more confident player.
Ultimately though, it takes the entire Blackhawk roster to be successful every night. That is why five different guys averaged at least six points per game last year. Coach Spies says that cohesiveness with all five guys playing for each other and together is what he wants to see all season.
Hinton starts their season tonight at home against West Lyon with tip off at 7:30 PM.
