The Le Mars Community girls wrestling team got their dual schedule started on Thursday with a pair of wins that starts them off with a 2-0 record.
The wins come after some tournament performances that were good but not great, and that left a lot to be desired for the Bulldogs. Head coach Greer Milledge says the constant improvement is nice to see.
The great start to the dual schedule came from an aggressive group that was looking to jump on their opponents early. Coach Milledge says they were challenged to compete like that, and they fulfilled that challenge.
Most people know about the dangerous duo in the Bulldog lineup in Brooklyn DeRocher and Keira Hessenius who have a combined record of 14-1. One name that might fly under the radar is Kerene Panya who has gotten to state twice but never won a match in Coralville. This year, she is off to a 7-2 start with the two losses coming to the same wrestler who is undefeated. Coach Milledge says Panya is determined to get back to state and place this year.
The Bulldog schedule does not get any easier as the season wears on. From the Council Bluffs Classic, to the MRAC tournament, and more MRAC duals, the Bulldogs will be grinding it out the rest of the season. Coach Milledge says the girls need to match their future opponents’ intensity now so they can match up well with them later.
The Bulldogs are in action again tonight at a double dual in Sioux Center.
