The Le Mars Community boys golf team is off to a hot start, and they added to it on Monday shooting a 302 at home to win an MRAC triangular.
The fall golf schedule assumes most athletes will be playing golf a lot throughout the summer with just three days of official practice before starting competition. That assumption is correct for the Bulldogs who got a ton of experience in good competition this summer. Head coach Nick Knapp says that experience is paying off early this season.
The Bulldogs had six of the top seven scores in the meet with everyone finishing at 80 or below and five finishing at 78 or below. Coach Knapp says the internal competition is making everybody else step their game up.
The name of the game for the Bulldogs on the course has been their play off the tee box. Coach Knapp says everyone has a big driver that sets up their short game for success.
The Bulldogs cannot rest on their laurels this early in the season however. The Missouri River Activities Conference has some great golfers, and Le Mars still has to run into a good chunk of them. Coach Knapp says the guys are motivated to keep this run going.
Le Mars returns to action on Thursday in a triangular against Sioux City West and Lewis Central in Sioux City.
