A Le Mars Community wrestler is getting the opportunity to wrestle in a national dual competition in Des Moines this weekend. Keira Hessenius was a state runner-up this year for the Bulldogs and was selected to compete at the Twin Rivers National Duals on Saturday and Sunday April 12 and 13 in Des Moines this weekend.
Concluding her high school career on the last day of the state tournament was a dream come true for Hessenius. She says watching those finals matches for three years made her want to be a part of them as a senior.
While Hessenius did not win the title, just getting to the finals match was a huge confidence boost. She says that confidence is carrying her a long way through these final high school competitions and into college next year.
The Twin Rivers National Duals welcome in teams from 12 different states spanning from Washington to Tennessee. Hessenius says her team is full of talented Iowa girls.
The opportunity presented itself last minute. Coaches search out wrestlers or put out feelers for spots they may need filled. Once Hessenius saw the opportunity present itself, she knew she had to capitalize.
Hessenius says she has been a competitor at this event before, but she has never been on a team of this caliber.
