UnityPoint To Acquire MercyOne
UnityPoint Health and MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center have signed a letter of intent for UnityPoint Health to acquire MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center and its facilities, including the hospital, physician practices, and home care services. Hospital Officials have released a joint statement on the pending acquisition.
Scott Kizer, President and CEO of UnityPoint Health says that “as an integrated, not-for-profit health system, UnityPoint Health is deeply invested in preserving access to care throughout all our communities; recruiting, retaining and developing the best possible workforce; and providing an exceptional experience to all our patients.”
Kizer says they believe that local, community-led, not-for-profit healthcare is the best for the Sioux City Community, and that this acquisition will help support that mission.
Bob Ritz, CEO of MercyOne, stated they strongly believe the best way to maintain access to care in Sioux City, to become sustainable long-term and to ensure a smooth transition for patients and employees, is for UnityPoint Health to acquire MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center.
The acquisition is expected to be completed this summer, pending closing conditions.
National Guard Send-Off in Le Mars
A large crowd filled the bleachers at the Le Mars Community High School gymnasium Wednesday afternoon for a special send-off for the 45 troops being deployed from the Iowa National Guard Unit, Troop C, based in Le Mars.
Colonel Jason Knueven, encouraged the assembled crowd not to forget the families who have soldiers being deployed. Colonel Knueven has been deployed five times.
He told KLEM that the soldiers will have some extra stops before shipping out to the Middle East.
Colonel Knueven is from Lester, Iowa and a teacher at West Lyon School. He serves at State Headquarters in Des Moines.
Laborshed Study to Be Conducted In Le Mars
The Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation is partnering with Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) and Iowa Economic Development Authority to complete a Laborshed employment study for the Le Mars area. This study define which communities contribute to the Le Mars workforce. This defined area is called a Laborshed area and is based upon commuting patterns.
Letters will be sent to randomly selected households asking residents to take a confidential online survey. Survey questions will cover topics including employment status, current and desired wages, current and desired benefits, education level, and type of occupation. Iowa Workforce Development will not be asking survey takers for identifiable information such as name, social security number, or date of birth.
Community Development Director Mark Gaul says this survey is phase three of the study.
Gaul says the compiled information provides useful information for employers and community planning.
Following the conclusion of the online survey efforts IWD will conduct telephone surveys in the area through a third-party vendor.
Floyd Valley Urgent Care Open House Today
Floyd Valley Healthcare’s new urgent care location will be opening this Monday, June 2nd. Floyd Valley Urgent Care is located at 1080 Holton Drive. An Open House will be held this afternoon (Thursday) from 4 till 6 p.m. There will be a brief program and ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.

Industry professionals worldwide are gearing up for World Pork Expo 2025. The event returns to the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on June 4th and 5th, and is hosted by the National Pork Producers Council.
The Expo features the largest trade show in the world, according to the press release, with over 300,000 square feet of exhibit space showcasing the latest advancements in pork production and nearly 700 booths , all gathered to share insights and solutions to drive the industry forward.
