Two Le Mars Little League teams heading to State Tournaments
Two Little League baseball teams representing Le Mars are heading off to the Little League State Tournaments taking place this weekend, with the 10U team playing in Sioux City and the 12U team heading to Ottumwa. 12U head coach Ryan Campbell told KLEM that sending both teams to the State Tournament is a positive reflection of Le Mars’ Little League program.
The 12U team participated at the district tournament in Sioux City earlier this month, where they swept all five of their games, put up 65 total runs, and only gave up 10 runs to punch their ticket to Ottumwa. Campbell says both teams have the opportunity to do something special for the community.
The Iowa Little League State Tournaments in Ottumwa and Sioux City will start this upcoming Friday, July 24th, with the championship game scheduled for next Thursday, July 30th.

Le Mars Police reports released for June
The Le Mars Police Department announced they answered 581 calls for service during the month of June, a slight decrease from May.
Officers responded to 46 incidents and made 35 arrests in June, and 270 traffic citations and warnings were issued to drivers. 11 total accidents were reported, with 2 resulting in injury, and 9 resulting in property damage. These figures represent minor increases and decreases from previous months; 50 arrests and 29 incidents were reported in May, while 31 arrests and 41 incidents were reported during April.

Rural Mainstreet Index for Iowa down 11 points from June
A Creighton University survey of rural bank C-E-Os in Iowa and other Midwest states finds views of the economy sinking for the fifth time in the past six months. Creighton’s Rural Mainstreet Index rose to its highest level in three years last month, but it has dropped nearly 10 points in the region this month — and by nearly 11 points in Iowa. Creighton economist Ernie Goss, who directs the survey, says over half of the bank executives surveyed cited weak commodity prices as the greatest challenge to the rural economy.
Goss says the war in Iran is impacting farmers’ input costs.
The index found home and retail sales in the Midwest are falling, with farm equipment sales in particular very weak.
The Rural Mainstreet Index found a slight decline in Iowa agland prices, but a slight uptick in Iowa’s job market.
