The Gehlen Catholic baseball team snapped their four-game winning streak with an 8-5 loss at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Wednesday night.
The Jays were behind the eight-ball early after allowing a three-run Hawk homer in the bottom of the first inning. Gehlen Catholic head coach Tony Kerkvliet says that made it difficult for his team to keep executing what they wanted to do.
The Jays were then held in check offensively for the first four innings being unable to catch up to some high heat from Gracie Knobloch. Coach Kerkvliet says she had some really good stuff.
Gehlen finally got their mojo back at the plate in the fifth inning when they put up two runs and then added another three in the sixth. Coach Kerkvliet says hitting was contagious for the Jays as the game was winding down.
Gehlen drops to 8-7 on the season with the loss. The Jays have been getting to some slower starts over the last few games. Coach Kerkvliet knows that with some tough games coming up, his team will need to get to work earlier to hang around.
The Jays are back in action on Friday when they take on MMCRU on the road.
