Le Mars boys golf takes triangular at home over top MRAC contenders

The Le Mars Community boys golf team took home a first-place finish in Le Mars against Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Bishop Heelan on Thursday.

All three teams are in contention for a Missouri River Activities Conference title when things are said and done. Le Mars’ 313 was good enough for the win, and it showed continued improvement. Head coach Nick Knapp says this was an important one to get, and he is proud of the boys for stepping up to the challenge.

Consistency has been key lately for the Bulldogs, and no one has been more consistent than Owen Schrunk. He had another strong showing with a 77 to finish third individually. Coach Knapp says his play takes a lot of pressure off the other guys knowing that he will bring in a reliable score every time they play.

Austin Suesmihl was the medalist for the Bulldogs shooting a 75. Coach Knapp says he is one of those golfers that does not let how he played dictate his mood which is a plus when competing with tough competition.

The Bulldogs have just one regular season meet left, then the MRAC tournament, and the district meet in Fort Dodge in the first week of October. With the pairings being released on Thursday, Coach Knapp is happy to have the guys know where they need to go and which course they need to be ready for in a couple of weeks.

Le Mars’ next competition is on Thursday, September 25 at Sioux City North and against Sioux City East.
