Rejoice! Community Church holding annual Thanksgiving dinner today
Happy Thanksgiving! The Rejoice! Community Church will hold their 21st annual Thanksgiving dinner today.
Starting at 11am, community members can visit the church’s building in Le Mars to either dine-in or take out a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Menu items include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, cranberry sauce, and a dinner roll.
The dinner is open to everyone, and according to Margaret Catton, one of the Turkey Team Committee members, over 600 meals are delivered a year on average. Over 70 volunteers will help out today, and a total of 78 turkeys have been roasted for the dinner.
Meals will be served from 11am until 1pm. To have your meal delivered, you can call 712-548-4430 to request a delivery.

Two Hospers firefighters injured after training accident
Two firefighters from Hospers suffered burn injuries during a training exercise on Monday evening.
The accident occurred during a “search and rescue” exercise, when an unexpected flashover fire ignited while the two firefighters were inside. One firefighter suffered severe burn injuries, and is currently in a burn unit in Lincoln. The other firefighter suffered minor burns to the shoulder, and has been released from the hospital.
In a Facebook post, the city of Hospers asked community members to keep the firefighters in their thoughts, and thanked first responders from area volunteer fire and EMS departments. The accident is still under investigation.

With snow threat looming Friday, Iowa travelers need to be vigilant
Forecasters say it should be smooth sailing to travel Iowa’s roads on Thanksgiving Day, but some computer models are showing a wintery storm system developing on Black Friday that could make getting home a challenge. Trooper Paul Gardner, in the Iowa State Patrol’s Fort Dodge office, says motorists will need to keep a sharp eye on the forecast.
If the threat materializes and we get heavy snow Friday or into the weekend, Gardner says the D-O-T will be taking care of the roads and extra law officers will be out as well.
A spokesman for the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau says there were 17 crashes statewide during the Thanksgiving holiday period last year that involved either serious injuries or deaths, including five people who weren’t wearing their seat belts.
