Hinton girls basketball sets school record in dominating win over Gehlen Catholic

The No. 5 Hinton girls basketball team had their way with Gehlen Catholic on Tuesday night beating the Jays 87-13 in Hinton.

The Blackhawks dominated the game to a school-record 11 three-point field goal makes in the win. Hinton head coach Matt Leary says that was the most effective way to attack the Gehlen defense, and his team was in a groove.

In the first game with Hinton, the Blackhawks dominated the game under the basket scoring over 50 points in the paint. Gehlen Catholic head coach Brandon Schaecher says that was what caused the change in defense to force them to look outside.

The Blackhawk defense was also suffocating Gehlen with numerous turnovers and altered shots. Coach Leary says he was happy to see that intensity to continue throughout the entire game.

Gehlen Catholic falls to 4-8 on the season and 2-2 in the War Eagle Conference. Gehlen continues a tough stretch of games on Thursday night at home against a ranked West Lyon team. Coach Schaecher says it will be a good new challenge for his team.

Hinton wins their eighth-straight game improving to 10-1 on the season and 6-0 in the War Eagle Conference. Coach Leary says he needs his team to keep getting better on defense because that can lead them far.

Sydney Doeschot led the Hinton scoring effort with 32 points while Payton Kerns had five points to lead the Jays.
