Le Mars girls wrestling hosts home invitational with plenty of tough competition

The Le Mars Community girls wrestling team hosted their annual wrestling invitational on Friday night and finished ninth out of the strong collection of teams in attendance.

Le Mars head coach Greer Milledge says he wants his team to compete against good competition, and the home tournament is a great opportunity for that.

The Bulldogs opened with some positivity and celebration as Brooklyn DeRocher recorded her 100th win as part of her first match of the night. Coach Milledge says that was a special milestone to reach at home.

Three Bulldogs finished on the podium with Brooklyn DeRocher finishing second at 110 pounds and Marilyn Roller and Kerene Panya finishing 3rd and 140 and 145 pounds respectively. The Bulldogs were hoping for more, but Coach Milledge says it will be an opportunity for his team to demonstrate some toughness.

Regionals are now less than two weeks away for the Bulldogs who are looking to continue a trend of having a good contingent of wrestlers get to Coralville. Coach Milledge says everything has to work in tandem for the Bulldogs to get to their ultimate goal.

Le Mars is next in action on Tuesday at a double dual in Orange City. Their regional meet is set for Friday, January 30 in Spencer.
