Wells Enterprises donates $150,000 in support of Remsen St. Mary’s school expansion project
Wells Enterprises has donated $150,000 to the Remsen St. Mary’s school expansion project. The company made the announcement during a press conference at Remsen St. Mary’s High School yesterday afternoon, presenting a check to Fr. Tim Pick, school board president Barry Galles, and principal Kim Phillips.
Adam Baumgartner, vice president of corporate communications at Wells, told KLEM that supporting and giving back to the community is a core part of the company.
Baumgartner says the donation fits with how Wells wants to support local and surrounding communities.
The Remsen St. Mary’s School Committee has raised over $8.5 million to help improve the teaching and learning environment in the district. Principal Kim Philips says the district’s “highest priority” is to relocate the elementary school building to the high school building, allowing all students to be on one campus.

Hearing for Le Mars man on multiple gun charges to be held Monday
A hearing is set to take place next Monday for a Le Mars man who allegedly aimed a loaded gun at three police officers and another man during an incident in December. 44-year-old Brandyn Scott Doss is charged with 3 counts of assault on persons in certain occupations while displaying a deadly weapon, and 1 count each of going armed with intent, first-degree harassment, assault while displaying a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment.
Police were called to a residence on Second Ave NW in the early hours of December 14th, following up on a report of an argument between two men. According to the police report and court documents, Doss answered the door pointing a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun at three officers, and was arrested after the officers told Doss to put the gun down. Doss reportedly told officers they would be shot if they didn’t have a warrant or invitation.
Prior to the officers’ arrival, Doss allegedly pointed the gun at another man at the residence for nearly 4 minutes and had previously threatened to kill two family members via text message.
The 3 counts of assault on persons in certain occupations and the 1 count of going armed with intent are Class D felonies. Doss is being held on $90,000 bond, with Monday’s hearing at 11:15am set to be a bond review.
