Sac County Cattlemen’s Association supporting Nebraska ranchers affected by wildfires

The recent wildfires in western Nebraska have burned up nearly 900,000 acres of ranch land, which means acres of summer grazing land has been destroyed in the Sandhills and cows are stressed in the midst of calving. Seth Smith of the Sac County Cattlemen’s Association says the group is helping ranchers by filling a semi with lick tubs, which work well with low quality hay to provide cattle with nutrients and minerals.

Smith says it is truly a stressful time for western Nebraska ranchers and their herds.

They’ve started an account for cash donations to help called Sandhills Ranch Relief.

Smith says the Nebraska ranchers will be in need for at least a year as they won’t have grass for grazing this summer, so they haven’t set an end date for donations.
