Onawa Man Arrested After Climbing Grain Elevator

A man was taken into custody Thursday after barricading himself on an Onawa grain elevator. Authorities say the man climbed up the elevator and blocked the ladder with rubble around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon to prevent Sheriff deputies from getting to him.

After attempts to talk with the man through a drone, he eventually climbed down around 4:45 p.m. and was taken into custody.

The Monona County Sheriff’s Office would not say if the standoff was related to suspicious fires over the last three days, including one that destroyed the Monona County Fairgrounds on Wednesday.
