Bob’s Drive Inn reopens after winter remodel

A local staple is reopening their doors today, with Bob’s Drive Inn serving customers for the first time after a recent renovation. The Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening yesterday morning. Owner Nate Kass explained to KLEM why the remodel was needed.

This was the restaurant’s first remodel in nearly two decades, with the work taking over two months to complete while Bob’s was closed for the winter season. Kass says he hopes the renovation will create a more comforting environment for customers.

The newly-remodeled Bob’s Drive Inn, serving Bob Dogs, taverns, shakes and more, will officially reopen to the public today starting at 11am.

Bald eagle rescued in Le Mars recovering, no bone fractures

A male bald eagle that was rescued in Le Mars last week is continuing to recover, according to rescue clinic Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR).

The bird was found last Wednesday, February 25th by a city Parks and Recreation staff member near the Gehlen Catholic ballfields, unable to fly and in a “very lethargic” state. The eagle was taken to SOAR in Dedham, IA, by Plymouth County Conservation and Forever Wildlife Lodge & Clinic.

In a post on SOAR’s website, the organization says the eagle was not lead poisoned, did not have any bone fractures, and was able to bear weight, but slept most of his first day at the clinic. The organization added that “Plymouth is perching and eating,” and that the next step is to “get this eagle into a flight cage to stretch and work on strength training.”

City council sets property tax hearing date

During the Le Mars city council meeting on Tuesday, the council approved setting Tuesday, April 7th at 11:45am as the date for the public property tax hearing for FY 2027. The maximum property levy rate is set at $11.17 per thousand valuation.

Budget guidelines require that the city must set a property tax levy hearing date separate from a regular council meeting. This is done as a transparency measure, which will be sent out to all property owners as a truth-in-taxation statement breaking down all taxing authorities and their requests.
