Akron-Westfield girls golf advances to region final with dominant performance in Le Mars

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team dominated the competition in Le Mars on Friday to advance to the region final.

The Westerners shot an impressive 364 which was 14 strokes better than their 18-hole total at Willow Creek earlier that week. Head coach Steven Husk says having experience on the course from earlier in the week helped out for the regional opening round.

Willow Creek’s greens are very fast making them challenging for new players. Coach Husk says that was the main factor that benefitted his team after playing on it earlier in the week.

The Westerners were deep with all four scoring golfers finishing in the top five individually. Coach Husk says all of them played exceptionally well.

Akron-Westfield will turn their attention to the region final set to take place in Primghar on Wednesday. Coach Husk says the girls will be looking to have some revenge on that course after struggling on it last year.

Should the Westerners advance out of the region final, they will compete in the state meet in Boone on May 28 and 29.
