The Gehlen Catholic softball team cruised to an 11-1 victory over Harris-Lake Park in four innings on Monday night in Le Mars.
After scoring just five runs in the first four games of the season, the Gehlen bats have come alive the last two games scoring 13 and 11 runs in their last two outings. Head coach Tony Kerkvliet says the girls are playing with a lot of confidence lately.
In the top of the first inning, Harris-Lake Park was able to take advantage of some Gehlen miscues to put an unearned run on the board. Following that, Gehlen pitcher Kennedy Paulson was lights out keeping the Wolves off the scoreboard the rest of the night. Coach Kerkvliet says the turnaround was great to see.
After an 0-9 start to the year at the plate, senior Grace Kellen appears to be turning the corner. She recorded a hit in Friday’s win over West Sioux and had four RBIs against Harris-Lake Park on Monday. Coach Kerkvliet could see in batting practice that she was making better contact.
The Jays are back in action on Wednesday taking on undefeated Remsen St. Mary’s. Coach Kerkvliet says beating a good time like the Hawks will require doing a lot of the same things that have worked lately.
First pitch between the Hawks and the Jays is set for 7:30 PM in Remsen on Wednesday night.
