The Le Mars Community softball team scored their first MRAC wins of the season on Senior Night on Tuesday defeating Council Bluffs AL 16-8 and 16-7 in both games in five innings.
After starting the conference schedule off 0-12, Le Mars was looking to get the monkey off their back and tally some wins in the league. Head coach Brooke Berkenpas says the wins were very important to get her team some confidence.
Scoring 32 runs in five innings of softball suggests a team effort at the bat rack. That was proven all throughout the night with hitters in every spot in the order having an impact in some form or another. Coach Berkenpas says she was proud with the way her team hit the ball.
While the Bulldog pitchers did allow 15 runs in the two games, they showed some good fight to work their way out of some tricky situations. Coach Berkenpas says that comes from a mindset that is being instilled of trying to pitch to contact.
The Bulldogs will continue their tough schedule with a matchup against a ranked Bishop Heelan squad on Thursday. Coach Berkenpas says the Crusaders pose some challenges, and she is excited for her team to chase it head on.
Le Mars improved to 4-13 overall and 2-12 in the MRAC with the wins. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Crusaders is at 5:30 PM on Thursday.
