Remsen St. Mary’s alum Jaxon Bunkers earns All-Star status in Kansas Jayhawk Collegiate League

On Saturday in Hutchinson, Kansas, Remsen St. Mary’s alum Jaxon Bunkers was invited to participate in the 2026 Kansas Jayhawk Collegiate League All-Star Game.

Bunkers is in between his last two years of college and is coming off a season at Morningside University in which the Mustangs were leading the Great Plains Athletic Conference late in the season. While the end of that season did not go according to plan, Bunkers says it was a valuable season and it reinforced his love of the game.

Bunkers was named an All-Star after a great start to the season with the Great Bend Bat Cats. Bunkers says he was recommended to play with this team by an assistant coach at Morningside, and he says it has been a great choice to spend his summer in Kansas.

The Bat Cats are also having a great season. As of this airing, they are 22-8 on the season with just two games to go and are sitting in first place. As part of the National Baseball Congress, they are eligible for their World Series at the end of July. Bunkers says that is the goal as the season winds down.

Bunkers has had a large hand in Great Bend’s success. He is hitting right at the .300 mark with an OPS of 1.013 hitting 12 extra-base hits and driving in 26 runs. He says it is a great achievement to be named an All-Star in this league.

Bunker says he has always thrived on working a count and getting a good pitch that he can hit hard.

This summer, Bunkers has been playing seven hours away from his hometown making support from his family a challenge. Bunkers says his parents still have been very supportive in his endeavors in the sport he loves.

Bunkers also credited his high school upbringing at Remsen St. Mary’s towards his success in athletics over the last few seasons at the collegiate level.

The Bat Cats play two more regular season games against the Haysville Aviators. Bunkers then hopes to get a chance to come back up this way for a couple of days to catch his sister Hallie play at state softball and his brother Jayze play at state baseball for the Hawks.
