Luxembourg American Cultural Society visitors on Remsen St. Mary’s exchange
The Luxembourg Heritage Society of Northwest Iowa recently welcomed three visitors to Remsen, including two from Luxembourg: Marc Zimer, coordinator of the student exchange of Remsen St. Mary’s students with a school in Luxembourg; Carlo Krieger, former Luxembourg ambassador to China, Russia and Brazil; and Travis Gross, executive director of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society in Belgium, WI. The trio sat down with KLEM during a visit to Le Mars, discussing topics such as a planned exchange between students locally and in Luxembourg, and the importance of cultural exchanges between the countries.
Zimer, a physics teacher in Luxembourg who’s visited Remsen several times since the beginning of the exchange program, explained more about the program to KLEM.
Students from both schools have been meeting over Zoom recently. Krieger, who served as an ambassador for 18 years in addition to holding several other posts, says having cultural exchanges with Luxembourg specifically would give an “incredible insight” into Europe for the students.
Gross, who has led the Luxembourg American Cultural Society since last August, says the interactions would be “highly valuable,” especially for students with a Luxembourgish background.
Zimer says plans for the exchange, with Luxembourg students visiting Remsen and St. Mary’s students visiting Luxembourg for a few weeks, will be finalized soon. For more information on the Luxembourg American Cultural Society, visit lacs.lu.
