Iowa State Treasurer candidate John Norwood visited Le Mars last week, meeting with Le Mars mayor Rob Bixenman and local officials, and sitting down for an interview with KLEM. Norwood says his goal if elected in November is to be “a visible and engaged treasurer.”
Norwood, a Democrat, says his main priorities are to advocate for fiscal responsibility, defend the Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (also known as IPERS) from potential privatization efforts, and to “safeguard” the state’s financial future, also highlighting his ability to communicate with people across the political spectrum.
Norwood says the state has the opportunity to keep more taxpayer dollars circulating in Iowa.
Norwood will face off in November’s general election against incumbent Republican Treasurer Roby Smith, who is seeking reelection for a second term.
