Le Mars Public Library’s Library Bash wraps up 150th Anniversary celebrations
The Le Mars Public Library is wrapping up their 150th Anniversary celebrations with a Library Bash tomorrow night, featuring live music, food, games, and family fun. Librarian Kara Hitchler explained more about the library’s final anniversary event this year to KLEM.
Over the last 150 days, the library has celebrated 150 years of operation with a wide variety of events and activities, ranging from design contests to reading events.
Library service in Le Mars started in 1876 as a paid membership service, with the city taking over operations in 1885. Hitchler says the anniversary celebrations have helped to highlight the many services the library provides beyond just providing books.
The Library Bash will be held tomorrow evening at the Le Mars Public Library from 5-7pm.

Annual county Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle report issued
During the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday morning, county treasurer Shelly Sitzmann presented the county’s annual Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle report to the Board.
Between July 1st, 2025 and June 30th of this year, 6,255 driver’s licenses and ID’s were issued to 8,185 customers, with 1,592 tests and 99 oral tests administered. The county collected $429,000 in auto registration fees, $43,000 in driver’s license fees, and $117,000 in other fees for a total of $590,000 in revenue for the county during that time period. Over $11.7 million was disbursed to the Iowa Department of Transportation for motor vehicle titles and to the Department of Revenue for use taxes.
The next meeting of the Board of Supervisors is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 11th at 9:30am in the Plymouth County Courthouse.

Le Mars Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office conduct traffic enforcement project
The Le Mars Police Department, along with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Merrill and Hinton Police Departments, conducted a special traffic enforcement project on Monday evening between 4-8pm.
Enforcement was conducted throughout Plymouth County, with the department saying that 25 speed citations were issued to drivers, along with 22 speed warnings, 2 use of electronic device warnings, 1 stop light warning, and 25 other warnings for a total of 75 citations and warnings issued during the project.
