The Best 5 Days of Summer kicks off today: Plymouth County Fair’s Wednesday events
The Plymouth County Fair officially gets underway today, as the Best 5 Days of Summer kicks off with a mixture of fair-favorite events and exciting new activities for attendees. Fair board chairman John Ahlers previewed today’s highlight events to KLEM.
In the Pioneer Village tonight, high-energy country rock band Feuding Hillbillys will perform at 5:15pm and 7:30pm, with the opening ceremony, awards, and the crowning of the fair King and Queen scheduled to start at 6:30pm. Motorcross races will take place on the Grandstand at the same time, while 4-H and FFA exhibits and competitions will take place throughout the day.
Ahlers says several improvements and changes were made to the fairgrounds and buildings during the offseason.
The Plymouth County Fair is one of the largest county fairs in the state, and Ahlers says there’s a “magic” to the fair that keeps fairgoers coming back every summer.

Statewide Walk for the Future to be held in Le Mars next month
Le Mars will be one of five communities across Iowa hosting the 27th annual Walk for the Future next month, hosted by the Iowa SIDS Foundation.
The walk is a statewide event held for families affected by sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), with all funds raised used towards the Iowa SIDS Foundation’s operations, such as supporting SIDS/SUID research, grief resources for newly bereaved Iowans, and educational materials and presentations. The Foundation states on their website that the walk is intended for “SIDS and SUID families to meet or connect, communities to show support, and for each of us to remember and celebrate the lives of Iowa babies.”
In Le Mars, the Walk for the Future will take place at the Municipal Park Shelter House on Saturday, August 22nd at 9:45am, with planned activities including a memorial balloon release, a raffle and silent auction, a bake sale, door prizes, and more. Registration is $25 for adults and $10 for children.

Floyd Valley Healthcare announces new pediatrician
Floyd Valley Healthcare has announced the hiring of Dr. Sean Knight, who will provide a full spectrum of pediatric medicine and will begin to see patients in August.
Dr. Knight completed a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Rocky Vista University School of Medicine in Parker, Colorado, and his Pediatric Residency as well as postdoctoral training with a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. In a press release, Floyd Valley Healthcare CEO Dustin Wright stated that the hospital was “excited to welcome Dr. Knight and his family to Le Mars,” and that “Dr. Knight will provide pediatric care for our families and has a special interest with sports medicine, further expanding our capabilities to treat our younger patients.”
