The Le Mars Community boys golf team finished third out of nine teams at their home invitational on Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs have been playing triangular almost exclusively throughout the season. That kind of competition varies greatly from having nine teams on the course at one time. Le Mars head coach Nick Knapp says it was great to have many teams competing and give the guys a taste of the MRAC Tournament.
The Bulldogs shot a 314 which was 11 strokes off a stellar 303 score to win the meet from Council Bluffs AL. Coach Knapp says he was a bit disappointed with how the guys competed on their home course.
With that slim of a margin for error, little things will add up quickly to make up the difference. Coach Knapp says he has noticed the guys not able to fully finish meets with their best, and that was true again after playing 18 holes on back-to-back days.
All of that competition means the Bulldogs have earned the right to stay off their feet. Coach Knapp says he wants the guys to take advantage of this time off, but he also knows they are desiring to keep working on their craft on the course.
Le Mars returns to competition on Monday next week with a meet at the Sioux City Country Club. They are next at home on Tuesday, September 29 for the Missouri River Activities Conference Tournament.
