Mammography technician talks Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Jackie Dau, the Lead Mammography Technician at Floyd Valley Healthcare, spoke about some breast cancer statistics.
There are 12 symptoms of breast cancer to look out for.
Breast cancer isn’t just found in women. Thousands of men in the U.S. are also diagnosed each year.

Voting information
With Election Day less than a month away, Plymouth County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Stacey Feldman reminds voters of important dates and deadlines ahead of November 3rd.
Absentee ballots will be ready to fill out and mail on October 14th. The last day to request an absentee ballot will be on October 19th. The 19th is also the voter pre-registration deadline.
On Halloween, which falls on a Saturday this year, the Auditor’s Office will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for absentee voting.
The last day to vote absentee in the Auditor’s Office will be November 2nd. Election Day hours will be from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on November 3rd.
There have been concerns across the country about voter fraud and mail-in ballot tampering. Feldman does not anticipate any issues in Plymouth County.

Public hearing on Local Option Sales and Service Tax Revenue Bonds set for October 20th
At yesterday’s Le Mars City Council meeting, a public hearing was scheduled for the start of the next meeting at 12 p.m. on October 20th to discuss a proposed issuing of Local Option Sales and Service Tax Revenue Bonds in an amount not to exceed $5,000,000.
The purpose of the bonds is to pay the costs of park projects. Bonds are repayable solely from the proceeds of Local Option Sales and Service Tax received by the city of Le Mars.

Public hearing on U.S. 75/C-70 intersection construction project set for November 10th
At yesterday’s Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting, a public hearing was set for 11 a.m. on November 10th to discuss the U.S. 75/C-70 intersection construction project scheduled for next year. The Iowa Department of Transportation will be conducting the project, which aims to build J-turns along the proposed intersection.
Public discussion is encouraged not for the project itself, but for the projected closure of Fulton Street on the north end of the project zone.

Dordt University Campus Center Art Gallery featuring new exhibit
The Dordt University Campus Center Art Gallery will feature a new exhibit, “But Does It Match The Sofa?”, running from today until November 20th. The artist, April Benson, is an oil painter from Orange City who has more than 20 years of experience painting with oils.
Those interested in learning more about Benson and her work can attend the artist’s reception on Thursday, October 15th from 7-8 p.m.
