Transload Center hosts ribbon cutting for rail expansion
A ribbon cutting ceremony took place in the Le Mars Industrial Park Thursday morning, celebrating the expansion of the Le Mars Transload Center. Peter Hoth, the President and CEO of the Burlington Junction Railway, says the current facility needed more room.
Hoth called this a public-private partnership, with the purchase of the land from the Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation.
Hoth told KLEM that access to rail is cost effective, and that they work with local trucking companies to help them expand their business.
Le Mars Mayor Rob Bixenman says this is a great opportunity for the community and growth of the industrial park.
Bixenman says the transload facility was an initiative that was “years in the making.”
The Transload Center is located on 27th Street in Southwest Le Mars.

Last week, the Iowa Department of Education provided nearly $600,000 to 24 school districts across the state through its Credentials to Careers grant. The grants support school districts in creating or expanding secondary career and technical education (CTE) programs aligned to student attainment of state-approved, industry-recognized credentials.

Le Mars Community School District received about $1,400 of funding. High School Principal Dr. Mark Iverson spoke on the grant, which was awarded to the district for the first time.
