90th annual Marcus Community Fair underway
The 90th annual Marcus Community Fair got underway yesterday evening, with opening ceremonies and the Little Miss Marcus Pageant kicking off a weekend filled with carnival games, livestock shows, and other major community events. Fair board president Kirk Letsch explained the highlight events of the fair to KLEM.
Other highlight events include the parade at 4pm on Saturday, the cooking school at noon and the antique tractor pull on Sunday afternoon. Letsch says the fair is a great opportunity for the small community of Marcus to get together over the summer.
The annual Marcus Community Fair will take place between now and Sunday evening at the Marcus Fairgrounds, with free admission for all attendees. For more information, visit marcuscommunityfair.com.

Minnesota man arrested after brandishing gun at another man in Le Mars
A Minneota, Minnesota man has been taken into custody after brandishing a handgun at another man in Le Mars.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening in the parking lot of Love’s Travel Plaza in Le Mars. At approximately 9:50pm, officers from the Le Mars Police Department were called to the scene on a report of an individual attempting to intimidate another individual with a handgun. The victim told officers that the offender was upset about his vehicle’s headlights shining into his truck, before brandishing a handgun at the victim and retreating to his truck.
The offender, identified as Troy Janiszeski of Minneota, Minnesota, surrendered to officers without incident and admitted to displaying the handgun. Janiszeski was arrested on charges of assault while displaying a deadly weapon and public intoxication, and was taken to the Plymouth County Jail shortly afterwards.

Salix cancels council meeting, data center vote, after online threats
Salix postponed its city council meeting Wednesday because of safety concerns following threats made on social media. Salix Mayor Kevin Nelson says the community remains divided over a potential data center, but that threatening behavior should not happen.
The council was expected to vote on a one-year moratorium on data centers. Nelson says the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the threats.
He says officials also received death threats in May after Salix annexed about 900 acres of farmland for the project. Nelson says he expected to hear from both sides at the meeting.
Nelson says nothing is decided yet. Google recently confirmed it’s evaluating the site for a possible data center.
