LE MARS — The Westwood Rebels converted a two-point conversion in overtime following a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Sean Westergaard to edge Gehlen Catholic 29-28 in a Class A, District 1 clash at Jim Lorenzen Field to determine the second playoff spot in the district.  Adam Ellensohn’s one-yard run and Bryan Nohava’s P-A-T put the Jays in front 28-21 in the overtime period.  Ellensohn started the night with an 85-yard touchdown on the opening kick-off and Cole Wiltgen added a 22-yard touchdown run with 6:59 to play in the first quarter for an early 14-0 Gehlen lead.  Braulio Munoz scored on a seven-yard run with 1:41 to play in the first quarter for Westwood to trim the deficit to 14-7.  The two defensive units dominated the middle two quarters with no further scoring.  Munoz scored a tying touchdown with 8:45 to play in the fourth quarter and a 43-yard run by Travis Schrunk with 2:52 to play put Westwood ahead 21-14.  Gehlen tied the game with 1:48 left in regulation on a 19-yard TD-pass from Wiltgen to Jacob Nemmers with Nohava’s P-A-T knotting the game at 21-all.  The Jays did learn later in the evening Friday that they would be added to the playoff field in Class A as one of the two Wild Card teams, ending a five-year playoff drought for Gehlen.  The Jays travel to Southwest Valley in Corning next Friday night for a 7 p.m. playoff opener.  Westwood opens the playoffs Friday at Council Bluffs St. Albert.
