Ready…Set…Glow…. Walkers Help Raise Funds For 4-H

(Le Mars) — Last Saturday, May 5th, approximately 70 people participated in the third annual “Ready…Set…Glow” fun walk/run for Plymouth County 4-H.  The event started from the Century Hall at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds and went through the Le Mars Municipal Park and back to the fairgrounds.  Participants had the choice to walk a mile, or to participate in the 5K run, which measures approximately three miles, and went through the park and around the Le Mars Golf Course.  Approximately $2,000 was raised during the evening’s festivities that also included some games and an evening meal consisting of barbecue pulled pork sandwiches.   The event was held during the twilight hours of sundown.  Registered participants were given a t-shirt with lettering that “glowed” in the dark.  Many of the participants also had glow sticks and other luminaries to help guide their way, and to call attention to the fun walk and run.  The Plymouth County 4-H Foundation was hosting the event.  The money raised will go to help with Plymouth County 4-H events, as well as to off-set expenses for 4-H members attending the Washington D.C. Citizenship Short Course, State 4-H Conference held in Ames, and 4-H camps.  Some of the raised funds will be awarded as scholarships to local 4-H members pursuing higher education.
