SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) Bubba Watson and Francesco Molinari will be the clubhouse co-leaders when the first round of the PGA Championship resumes at Whistling Straits. Watson and Molinari shot 4-under 68s, and Matt Kuchar (KU’-chur), Ernie Els and Nick Watney were on the course at minus-4 when play was halted by darkness, a byproduct of a three-hour fog delay to the start of the tournament. Jason Day, Ryan Moore and Charles Howell III opened with 69s, and Tiger Woods closed with a birdie for a 1-under 71.

NEW YORK (AP) New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez is spending another day on the team’s restricted list after he was charged with third-degree assault of his girlfriend’s father. The 28-year-old reliever is accused of grabbing 53-year-old Carlos Pena, hauling him into a nearby tunnel, hitting him in the face and banging his head against the wall. K-Rod was released without bail and ordered to stay away from the man.

ATLANTA (AP) Chipper Jones is facing season-ending surgery after the Atlanta Braves third baseman tore the ACL in his left knee while fielding a grounder in Tuesday’s game at Houston. The estimated recovery time is six months, short enough to be ready for the next opening day if Jones decides to return in 2011. Jones was contemplating retirement earlier this summer after getting off to a slow start at the plate.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Major League Baseball owners have unanimously approved the sale of the Texas Rangers to an investment group led by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan and sports attorney Chuck Greenberg. The sale was formally approved at the MLB quarterly owners’ meetings in Minneapolis.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Philadelphia 76ers have hired Rod Thorn as team president and announced that Ed Stefanski will stay as general manager. Stefanski had held both roles since replacing Billy King in December 2007. King succeeded Thorn as New Jersey’s GM last month.
